Since 2020, at least a dozen African nations have endured coup d'états; six countries crossing 3,500 miles across the center of the continent now constitute the longest stretch of military rule in the world. With a recent Freedom House finding that half of Africans live in countries considered “not free,” what is the future for the region, and the country-by-country dynamics that spell its future.
