Join us on Tuesday, June 13th from 7:00 - 9:30 CST in the IOP House living room for an engaging evening as we kick off our first ever “Summer in Chicago” series of events for IOP interns with a screening of the documentary "Punch 9 for Harold Washington." This documentary — which includes candid interviews with Rev. Jesse Jackson, Valarie Jarrett, and David Axelrod — unveils the captivating rise, surprising reign, and enduring legacy of Chicago’s first Black Mayor, Harold Washington. For students engaged in public service throughout Chicago, this documentary offers valuable insights into the Mayor who fundamentally altered the political landscape of the city. 

This event is designed to introduce interns to the dynamic history of Chicago politics and policy, as well as foster a sense of camaraderie as we embark on an exciting summer together. 

You’ll have the opportunity to watch this thought-provoking documentary before its wider release, following its limited theater run this spring. So, come as you are, grab your favorite snacks (we’ll have candy and popcorn!), and prepare for an evening celebrating Chicago, its history, and its legacy of public service. Bring a comfy lawn chair, blanket, and/or pillow.
